Fairway Companion

This policy explains how Potato Studios Development LLC ("Potato Studios," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the Fairway Companion Android app, Wear OS companion features, website, and Fairway Cloud services.
Privacy at a glance
- Fairway Companion has no advertising and does not sell personal information.
- Cloud features use an account so stats, favorites, social play, and profile information can work across devices.
- Precise location, contacts, camera, photos, and notifications are used only for the features you choose and the permissions you grant.
- Raw contact names and phone numbers are not uploaded for friend matching. The app sends one-way hashes of normalized contact identifiers.
- You can delete cloud data or your entire account from the Me tab, or request deletion from this page.
1. Information we collect

If you add a phone number, we process the number and its verification status. |

| Location | With permission, the app uses device location to find nearby venues, calculate GPS distances, center course maps, mark shots, and verify map-correction reports. Nearby-venue and search requests may send latitude and longitude to Fairway Cloud. Cloud round records may include locations you intentionally mark during play. |
| Contacts | If you grant Contacts access and ask to find friends, the app reads contact identifiers on your device, normalizes them, and sends one-way SHA-256 hashes for matching. Contact display names, your address book, and raw phone numbers are not uploaded for this feature. Contact hashes may still be personal information because they can match an account. |
| Device and security | We process an app-install identifier, app version, device platform and model information, session tokens, push-notification tokens, request-integrity signals, request timestamps, and security or diagnostic information needed to authenticate requests, prevent abuse, and keep the service operating. Service providers may process IP addresses and standard network logs. |
| Support and submissions | If you contact us, submit venue information, or report a map problem, we receive the information you provide. Map reports may include course, hole, proposed geometry, GPS location, accuracy, timestamp, note, and account identifier. |
2. Information that stays on your device
Fairway Companion keeps downloaded venue files, cached course photos, active-round state, local settings, permission state, temporary map corrections, and other app data on your device. Some locally stored golf data is also synchronized to Fairway Cloud when you are signed in. Removing the app may remove local data that has not been synchronized.
3. Android permissions
- Precise and approximate location: nearby venues, GPS distances, shot marking, map centering, and eligible course-map corrections.
- Contacts: optional friend discovery using hashed identifiers.
- Camera: scanning Fairway Companion game QR codes and taking a round-sharing or profile photo when you choose those actions.
- Photos selected through Android: choosing a profile photo or an image for a round-share card.
- Notifications: friend requests, game invitations, shared-score updates, and scheduled-round activity.
- Foreground location service: maintaining GPS updates during an active round when the feature is running.
You can deny or revoke permissions in Android settings. The related feature may stop working, but unrelated app features should remain available.
4. How we use information
We use information to authenticate accounts; sync stats and favorites; deliver venue files and photos; calculate and display golf activity; enable friends, games, schedules, Feed activity, and leaderboards; send requested notifications and verification messages; review venue and map corrections; secure the service; troubleshoot failures; comply with law; and communicate with you.
We do not use personal information for third-party advertising, behavioral advertising, credit decisions, or data-broker products.
5. When information is visible to other players
Your display name and profile photo may be visible to friends, people invited to the same game or schedule, and people using a valid shared-game or spectator link. Depending on the feature, other players may see scores, hole progress, longest drive, achievements, scheduled times, votes, and Feed activity. Your email address, phone number, raw contacts, private session information, and precise device location are not intended to be displayed in public social surfaces.
6. Service providers and third-party services
We use service providers to operate Fairway Companion. They process information under their own terms and privacy policies and only as needed for the relevant service:
- Cloudflare: Workers, D1 database, R2 object storage, security, delivery, and network logging for Fairway Cloud.
- Google: Google Sign-In, Google Maps Platform, Google Play Integrity, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Android, and Google Play.
- Telnyx: optional SMS phone-number verification.
- Open-Meteo: five-day weather forecasts based on a venue's coordinates.
The app may also open golf venue websites, reservation providers, phone dialers, calendars, messaging apps, and Google Maps pages at your direction. Those third parties control their own data practices.
7. Sale, sharing, and advertising
Fairway Companion does not contain ads. Potato Studios does not sell personal information or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We may disclose information to service providers described above, when you direct us to share it, to protect users or the service, in connection with a lawful business transfer, or when required by law.
8. Retention
We generally keep account and synchronized golf data while your account is active. Session, verification, push, security, and operational records are retained only as long as reasonably needed for their purpose. Social activity can remain visible to other participants while the underlying shared game or event exists.
When an account is deleted, we delete data associated with the account from Fairway Cloud, subject to limited retention required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, backup cycling, or dispute resolution. Accepted course geometry corrections may remain as non-account course data after the source account is removed.
9. Access, correction, and deletion
In the app, open Me, scroll to Account controls, and choose Delete Cloud Data or Delete Account. Deleting cloud data removes synchronized stats and related cloud records while leaving the account and local phone data. Deleting the account removes the account and associated Fairway Cloud data. Data stored only on your device can be removed by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it.
If you cannot access the app, request account deletion by emailing [email protected] with the subject Fairway Companion Account Deletion and the email address used for the account. We may need to verify that you control the account before completing the request.
You may also contact us to request access to or correction of account information. Rights vary by location, and we will respond as required by applicable law.
10. Security
We use HTTPS, authenticated sessions, request-integrity controls, access restrictions, and provider security features intended to protect information. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children
Fairway Companion is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it.
12. International processing
Potato Studios is based in the United States. Information may be processed in the United States and other locations where our service providers operate, subject to applicable safeguards and law.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Fairway Companion changes. We will update the effective date and provide additional notice when required by law.
